Climbing Nanga Parbat in Winter - The Journey is the Reward

The North Face: The Journey is the Reward
by

In the winter of 2014, mountaineers Simone Moro and David Göttler tried and failed to summit the unclimbed Nanga Parbat peak (8124m). All we want is to explore. We need to explore. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t. But the journey is always the reward.  Nanga Parbat has been attempted in winter for the last 25 years. The summit remains untouched in the winter, to this day.

This winter, team members Simone Moro, David Goettler and Emilio Previtali are attempting to summit the Rupal face of Nanga Parbat aka The Killer Mountain for the first time ever in winter. The Rupal face is the world's highest mountain face, rising 4,600 m (15,090 ft) from its base camp.
